Veterans Take Advantage of Expanded Military Discount

All 21 million U.S. military veterans eligible through June 30militaryappreciation

DETROIT – Nearly 8,000 U.S. military veterans have purchased a new Chevrolet, Buick, GMC or Cadillac by taking advantage of General Motors’ enhanced Military Discount Program, which runs through June 30. All active-duty military, reservists, retirees and veterans – regardless of separation date – are eligible.

“We anticipate many more will use the discount through the end of the month,” said Steve Hill, GM vice president of U.S. sales and service. “It’s our small way of thanking those who have made so many sacrifices for the safety and security of our nation.”

In May, National Military Appreciation Month, GM extended military pricing to the more than 21 million U.S. veterans from all five service branches. After June 30, the discount applies to active-duty, reserve and retired military personnel, and veterans within a year of their separation date.

First offered in 2008, the GM Military Discount Program features a discount price below the manufacturer’s suggested retail for eligible vehicles.

“GM has a long legacy of support for those who have served,” said Ken Barrett, GM chief diversity officer and retired Navy captain. “I’m pleased to see so many of our current and former service members taking advantage of the industry’s best military discount to purchase vehicles for themselves and their families.”

The military discount can be combined with most current customer incentives, which vary by region. USAA members are eligible for an additional $750 discount. Eligible buyers must take delivery by June 30, 2014.

GM Finally Gets Some Good News—And It’s About Safety

Inside A Chevrolet Dealership Ahead Of Domestic Vehicle Sales DataThe GMC Terrain and Chevrolet Equinox received top marks in a new safety test, which must have GM executives smiling even as the company remains under investigation for a faulty ignition defect that went ignored for a decade

General Motors got some much needed good news Tuesday that two of its SUVs received top scores on a new crash test.

The GMC Terrain and Chevrolet Equinox were the only two cars in the SUV category to get the top mark in an Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS) test, which had cars’ front corners crash into trees and other vehicles at 40 miles an hour. The Honda Pilot received the lowest score.

These positive safety stats offer a brief ray of light for the auto giant, which has been under intense scrutiny over the recall of 2.6 million cars over a faulty ignition switch. The company is under investigation by Congress and the Justice Department after it emerged that it took GM 10 years to issue the recall for a fault which has been linked to more than a dozen deaths.

But the future looks slightly brighter. “When it comes to midsize SUVs, General Motors is showing the way forward,” the IIHS said its safety test summary.

2015 Corvette Stingray Gets 8-Speed Auto, New Colors, OnStar 4G LTE & More: RPO Central

There is simply no questioning the general aptitude for performance of the 2014 Corvette C7 Stingray. What started out as one of Chevrolet’s most anticipated reveals of the decade has turned into a giant success story, with the new 2014 Stingray winning accolades, praise, and wishful looks from bystanders all around. And for the 2015 model year, Chevy is making its uncompromising sports car even better.

To start, the Lime Rock Green Metallic and Cyber Gray Metallic exterior colors are being replaced by two new hues — Shark Gray Metallic and Daytona Sunrise Orange Metallic (an extra cost color). But the bigger news is that the standard 6-speed paddle-shift automatic gearbox with the 2.56 rear axle ratio will officially be replaced by a new 8-speed unit with a 2.41 ratio.

On the high-tech front, the 2015 Vette Stingray joins the host of GM vehicles to get OnStar 4G LTE, while the very useful (and cool) Performance Data and Video Recorder (PDR) gets direct integration.

A host of new packages joins the options list, including new wheels, a Chrome Badge Package, Carbon Flash Badge Package, and Carbon Fiber Ground Effects Package. In addition, the Z51 Performance Package now (finally!) includes the Performance Exhaust and 3LT trim level includes the Sueded Microfiber-Wrapped Upper Interior Trim Package.
